Refreshed LabourPains website improves access to trusted maternity pain relief information
21 May 2026
The OAA is delighted to announce the relaunch of LabourPains, its patient information website designed to help expectant parents better understand their pain relief choices for childbirth.
The refreshed website has been redesigned to provide clearer, evidence-based information about pain relief in labour and birth, with improved navigation, enhanced accessibility features, and a more user-friendly experience. A major new feature is the ability to translate the website into more than 30 languages, helping more expectant parents and healthcare professionals access the information they need.
LabourPains also offers a range of practical resources, including videos, downloadable fact sheets and pictorial guides explaining what to expect during caesarean birth under spinal or general anaesthesia. The website can also support healthcare professionals in discussing pain relief options with expectant parents in maternity settings.
Dr Gemma Crossingham, Chair of the LabourPains Subcommittee at the OAA, said: “We’re incredibly pleased with the refreshed LabourPains website and how much more accessible and user-friendly it is.
“We aimed to create a resource that helps expectant parents feel informed and supported when considering their pain relief options, while also providing a practical tool for healthcare professionals having these important conversations every day.
“We hope LabourPains will continue to be a valuable resource for maternity services and the families they care for.”
