The fellowship in Obstetrical-Anaesthesiology at Magee-Womens Hospital (MWH) is a 12 month program designed to provide advanced experience and training in all aspects of Obstetric-Anaesthesiology including research, administration, and clinical management of the complex obstetrical-gynaecological patient. The fellow will become an experienced consultant in providing analgesia and anaesthesia to the normal and high-risk pregnant patient.
The program at MWH is individually tailored to suit the goals of the trainee for academic or private practice. The MWH fellowship places special emphasis on teaching, consulting, oral presentations, writing skills, and academic research. The fellowship program will strive to provide the appropriate environment for the fellow to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to gain competence in dealing with normal and high risk pregnant patients undergoing obstetrical or non-obstetrical surgery. In addition, the program will strive to foster topics of interest and achievement in academic and research pursuits.
Magee-Womens Hospital (MWH) is a tertiary care medical centre specializing in the treatment of women. MWH has over 10,000 deliveries per year with a >90% neuraxial placement rate. MWH has a 22-bed labour and delivery suite with an adjacent 5-bed OB intensive care unit and a 14-room surgical operating arena located above the labour and delivery suite for ambulatory and in-patient procedures. MWH Anesthesiologists are recognized nationally as specialists in Obstetric-Anaesthesiology and for their teaching expertise. MWH also provides its fellows with training in critical events in Obstetrical-Anesthesiology utilizing the human simulator program, along with the opportunity to participate in educational events of the anaesthesia residence program, including grand rounds, preparation for the written and oral boards, evidence based medicine lectures, and journal club.
Magee-Womens Hospital (MWH) is a tertiary care hospital specializing in complete women care including high-risk obstetrics, gynaecologic surgery and maternal foetal-medicine.
