This post is intended for anaesthetists with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia, but without experience in clinical research. All necessary training will be given in post. The post provides an opportunity to learn all the stages of the research process, through to presentation and publication. Enthusiasm and endeavour should be rewarded by three first author publications from twelve months work. Approved study leave is encouraged.
Average clinical workload is equivalent to three theatre sessions weekly, and four nights on call per month.
St James’ is one of two major teaching hospitals in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. Within Anaesthesia, the Malignant Hyperthermia Unit and the research of the Obstetric Anaesthesia Unit have worldwide recognition. Opportunities exist for extended clinical experience in a wide range of specialties, and some special requests can be accommodated. The Academic Unit of Anaesthesia has a secure future, under Prof Phil Hopkins.
