Prizes will be awarded to the authors of the top two essays in both the junior (CT1-ST4) and senior (ST5-7+) categories. The four winning essays will be published on the OAA website. Winners will also receive free registration to the 2019 OAA Three Day Course!

Competition Details:

  1. Entries are now invited on the above essay title from any trainee member of the OAA of grade CT1 – ST7. Only one author per entry will be accepted

  2. All entries will be anonymised and judged by members of the OAA committee. The judging panel are looking for well written entries which demonstrate critical thinking and reflective practice.

  3. Maximum 3000 words. Please use Times New Roman size 12 font and double line spacing. References should be formatted as for the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia (IJOA).

  4. Submit your entry via the OAA website here. Please complete the submission form online with your details (name, grade, hospital, deanery, OAA membership number, email address, telephone number) and follow the instructions to upload your file.

  5. Entries should be submitted as a Word file labelled as ‘Trainee Essay Competition – your OAA membership number). Please include your OAA membership number on the first page of your essay only. The name of the author, author’s institution or other identifiable information should NOT be included on the manuscript itself.

  6. If your essay is based around a specific and identifiable patient(s), please remember to include a sentence at the end of your submission to confirm that patient consent has been obtained for the potential publication of your essay on the OAA website

  7. Book voucher prizes of £150 (1st prize) and £100 (2nd prize) will be awarded to the authors of the top two essays in both the junior (CT1-ST4) and senior (ST5-7+) categories. The four winning essays will be published on the OAA website. Winners will also receive free registration to the 2019 OAA Three Day Course.

  8. Winners will be contacted in March 2019. They will be formally congratulated by the OAA President and presented with their prizes at the 2019 OAA Three Day Course.
