Abstracts for oral and ePoster presentation:

Results and Instructions for Oral and ePoster Presenters

THIS MEETING IS NOW CANCELLED - We hope that abstracts selected for presentation can be included at a future OAA meeting later this year. The 30 April deadline for submission of e-posters has been suspended and more information will be posted on the OAA website in due course.

Letter from Robin Russell & Nuala Lucas

We would like to thank all those who submitted abstracts to the OAA’s 2020 Obstetric Anaesthesia meeting in Birmingham. This year we received 257 abstracts. Each submission has been marked by five assessors; scores have been calculated following which oral and poster presentations have been awarded.

Ten abstracts have been awarded an oral presentation in the Felicity Reynolds Prize. These will be presented in two sessions during the Birmingham meeting, each containing five abstracts. This year 200 posters will also be presented. So overall, over 80% of this year’s submissions are to be presented at the meeting. The top 110 abstracts will appear in the IJOA Supplement which will be available at the meeting.

In keeping with current importance of research governance, we insisted that projects were approved by either an ethics or audit committee or by the local Caldicott Guardian. The number of submissions not following these guidelines was minimal, although a small number were rejected where this was not clearly stated. As in previous years we have not accepted case reports without confirmation of written consent.

Given the large number of submissions it is not possible to give individual feedback to authors whose abstracts have not been accepted. We would suggest that unsuccessful authors contact members of their department with experience in publication who will hopefully be able to offer suitable and constructive advice on how to improve their work.

We would like to express our thanks to the 12 judges who gave up their time to mark the abstracts. They are: Sarah Armstrong, Sam Bampoe, Jim Bamber, Thierry Girard, Christina Laxton, Mark Nel, Nhathien Nguyen Lu, Abi Richardson, Fleur Roberts, Mark Scrutton, Gary Stocks and Chiraag Talati. We would like to thank the OAA Secretariat and staff at Fastfloor for helping maintain the on-line submission system.
