Annual Scientific Meeting Bursaries

Five bursaries of up to £1000 are available to overseas doctors to attend and present an accepted abstract (either as an oral or poster presentation) who otherwise could not afford to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting.

Applications should include:

  • The Applicant’s curriculum vitae
  • A copy of the accepted abstract
  • Projected travel and accommodation costs
  • A letter from the Applicant’s Head of Department or Superior confirming the Applicant’s suitability for the meeting his/her current annual salary and that there are no local sources of funding available to the Applicant.

Payment for travel and accommodation is by way of reimbursement on production of receipts and conditional on the Applicant attending the whole meeting.

Each application will be considered on its merits by the Research & Grants Sub-Committee. If more applications are received than bursaries available, applicants will be ranked in order of priority as determined by the Research and Grants Sub-Committee and, if appropriate, forwarded to the OAA Executive Committee for a final decision. Support will not be offered to those who have previously been awarded a Annual Scientific Meeting Bursary. Bursaries are limited to one author of each abstract and limited to two bursaries per country.

The next deadline for bursary applications is 17 March 2023 for attending the Annual Scientific Meeting in May 2023.

Applications should be submitted by email to Robin Russell, Chair of the OAA Research & Grants Sub-committee.
