Held in this spectacular Westminster setting, the annual course, now in its 34th year, is the only one of its kind in the UK and has proved extremely popular with anaesthetists from both the UK and overseas. Leading specialists will present cutting edge lectures on a wide range of core and relevant topics in obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia, including aspects of maternal medicine and fetal well-being. Many areas of current clinical controversy will also be explored and addressed.
Whilst designed primarily for experienced anaesthetists with a commitment to obstetrics, this intensive course may also be of interest to trainee anaesthetists, midwives and obstetricians. In addition, senior anaesthetists who cover obstetrics on-call but do little (or no) elective daytime obstetrics may also find this a useful way of being brought "up to speed" with current practice and opinion.
CPD approval has been awarded by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for Continuing Personal Development points. It will also be suitable for RCOG CME programmes. 15 CPD points for full attendance.
A webcast (audio and video recordings) of lectures will be available to delegates 3-4 weeks after the meeting for on-line 'listen/view again'.
In addition to our wide range of specialists, we have four international lecturers:
|
Jose Carvalho graduated in medicine at the University of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, in 1977, where he eventually became an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia in 1998. He also completed a PhD in Pharmacology at the same university. Jose is on the Editorial Board of the Obstetric Anesthesia Digest and was previously an Associate Editor of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and Co-Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology. He was the founding president of the Latin American Society of Regional Anesthesia. Jose and his team have been awarded multiple international research prizes. He has numerous publications and interests, which span from the use of ultrasound for regional anaesthesia in obstetrics to the use of intravenous remifentanil for labour analgesia. Outside of clinical work, his major interests are sports (basketball and tennis), cinema, photography and reading.
