Any individual or group (one of whom must be an OAA member) wishing to have an audit project carried out under the auspices of the OAA must first click here to make contact with the Secretariat (leave the subject as 'General'). Attachments cannot be sent via this link so first send a message (you will receive an automatic copy) to say you wish to submit a survey. Wait for the Secretariat to respond inviting you to attach the documents. If you do not receive a response within 48 working hours please contact the Secretariat by phone.
The documents will be passed to the Chair of the Surveys Subcommittee, Dr Upma Misra, for consideration by members of the subcommittee. An further acknowledgement of receipt will be sent from Dr Misra.
Comments, suggestions for improvement, rejection etc are collated by the Chairperson. The authors should hear from the subcommittee within 4-6 weeks of their submission.
The survey request should be accompanied by:
- A covering letter to the Chair of the Surveys Subcommittee
- A covering letter which will accompany the survey. This needs to explain whether this is a survey of individual practice or whether lead clinicians are being asked to comment on the practice of their Unit. The letter should also have the names of the authors and the address for correspondence. The e-mail addresses of all the authors must be included
- Background information (including references) as to why the survey is thought to be necessary
- An indication of the target group requested, eg Lead Obstetric Anaesthetists (~218), UK Consultant members (~1120), all UK members (~2020), UK and Overseas members (~2330) etc
To encourage response, it is important that the survey:
- Has a consultant as a co-author
- Is as concise as possible
- Has unambiguous questions
Preparation:
- Once approval has been given, authors will be sent an OAA 'seal of approval' and a survey number
- Surveys will normally use the OAA's on-line survey system for which a charge is made (approximately half the cost of a postal survey)
- Circulation normally follows the listed order at approximately three-week intervals to avoid overlap and to encourage a good response. The order may vary if any survey is not ready or if payment has not been received (see below)
- The title and authors of the survey will be added to the website listing
- The Secretariat will give access to the OAA Survey system for preparation of the questions, normally three weeks before the anticipated opening date. View Question Types available on the system
- The 'seal of approval' must be included in the on-line covering letter
- A preview of the final survey will be passed by the Chair of the Audit Subcommittee
- There must be no commercial advertising in the surveys
Payment:
- Payment should be made approximately three weeks prior to the anticipated circulation date
- Pay online and a receipt will be sent automatically by email. (Please note that the events payment system has, for the moment, been used to enable this, so the wording is very much non-standard!)
- OR print the payment form and return by post with a cheque or by fax if paying by credit card
Following the survey activation:
- A time-limit will be set for completion of the survey
- Responses can be viewed at any stage on the survey system
- The originators can request that a reminder be sent if required. This will go to non-responders only
- The sub-committee will expect a summary of the results upon completion, but this should not interfere with publication in a journal
- The OAA should be informed of details of any acceptance as a free paper abstract or other publication. These will be noted, and if possible linked, on the survey list
- Authors are also invited to offer pdf files of displayed meeting posters resulting from the survey
