OAA support for junior doctors

Care of pregnant women and their babies represents a significant part of the weekend and night work of anaesthetists in training. The OAA committee believes that extending the normal of hours of work of trainees will not improve the quality of training or the quality of care given to pregnant women and their babies. We welcome the governments interest in providing excellent care 24 hours a day, but undermining the morale of dedicated, hard working trainees is not a constructive way of doing so. We invite the government to engage with the profession and adequately fund measures to improve care.
